Help! I am the Camp Director!

I just was called to be the Young Women's Rough Camp Director for my ward. I know that every calling is humbling, but this one really is for me. I think back to when I was in Young Women's and went to camp and I am completely overwhelmed. I can' even imagine how much planning and hard work went into it.

So I am asking for your help. When you guys went to girls camp, were there any particular activities that you loved or that stood out to you? I want to make this as fun and memorable for these girls as possible, so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Breanne, I was the Camp Director in my ward for the last 2 years. I must say that it was very hard at times and a lot of work but very, very rewarding. There is nothing that bonds the young women together like girls camp does. If you need any help give me a call and maybe I can help... but the best advise I can give you is put your YCL's in charge (if you have any) that way they can come up with the ideas and you can help get things ready. You just oversee what there plans are and if you need to make any changes or add anything you have the authority to do it.

Hey, I don't know if you get to choose the place where you go for camp? But, a couple years ago in my last ward I did camp and we went to Beaver High Adventures. A lot of Boy Scouts go there. I had the best time ever at camp, even more fun then when I was in YW's. It was a lot of training for the girls (building up endurance) but totally worth it! You get to hike to what ever activity your doing that day and it usually about a mile hike but you get to rock climb, canoe, repel, ropes courses, camp, etc. It really was a blast!!! I would go again in a heart beat. Then the last night we put the girls in a hotel with a pool and went to Wendy's for dinner (They loved that they got to swim and have a shower) Anyways, it was a great success. Good luck with all your planning, it's alot of work but then you dont have hardly anything to do the other 9 months of the year:)

Breanne- I admit that I am snooping a little here on your blog. I linked over from Summer's. It's fun to see what you are up to! My favorite memories of camp are not the activites at all - it was the times I just got to hang out with my friends and chat. Obviously, you can't just do that for a week, but be sure to schedule down time too. Good luck! You can check out my blog at http://jjstrong.blogspot.com/

Wowza! That is going to be fun and challenging. Where are you guys going for the camp. My advice is plan early and just as Heather Walker said...delegate. I think back to when I was in young women I was the most excited when I had ownership and responsibility in these things.

I think early morning workouts/aerobics/hikes were fun and really cook dutch oven dinner were fun.

Wow, I'm scared for you! That would be a hard one! I hope that it goes well and you don't get too stressed.

We used to go out late after we were supposed to be in bed and "heart attack" other camps and write notes to them and leave them treats... We used to also go on early morning hikes and watch the sunrise at the top, and then have a morningside up on top of the mountain. We had firesides around the campfire which was fun, and of course you have to play Spaz and Big Booty and cheesy camp games when you're at camp!!
