Good Lookin' Garlick Boys!

I realize that I might be slightly biased on this one, but man, I think I married into a good looking family. Just look at the boys! I was lucky enough to have Dave convince Michael and Brennen that we needed to get all three of them in a picture, and as I was looking at the picture after I thought, wow, these are some really good looking guys! Not to down play the Garlick girls at all, Jenette, Stephanie and Julianne are all absolutely gorgeous, I just don't happen to have a picture of the three of them together.

We had another great book club last night! It was at my sister-in-law Shayla's house. I love reading the books every month, but I think the best part of it is just getting together with the girls and talking. Thanks for hosting Shayla, it was a lot of fun! The book we are going to read for next month is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

Christmas!

This Christmas was a pretty crazy one for Dave and I. There have been some definite ups and downs for us during this holiday season.

The holiday rush started on Christmas Eve. My Mom always goes all-out and makes a fabulous Christmas Eve dinner. Dave and I headed down to that in a major snow storm, the roads were so bad at one point we were considering just turning around and going home to have a quiet night at home. After stuffing ourselves at my parents, we went over to the Garlick's house and played games for a few hours with Dave's family. Then we drove back up to Salt Lake. I just want to give a little shout out to the guys who plow the freeways, you guys are awesome, I was really worried about driving home that night, but by the time we were headed home, the roads were clear and salted, I was very impressed.

Overall Christmas day was good, just busy running back and forth between my family and his. We started out opening presents at our house, and this was a big year for me because it was the first time I have really slept in on Christmas morning. I woke up on Christmas morning at 6:00, usually it is much earlier. After unwrapping presents we went down to my parents house to have a Christmas morning with my family, it was fun to see everyone unwrap their gifts. My favorite part is always watching my niece and nephew unwrap their presents. They always have so many that they don't know what to do with them all. And as usual, my parents' were far too generous, and spoiled Dave and I way too much.
Then we headed over to the Garlicks to celebrate Christmas there. We unwrapped presents there and then had a wonderful lunch/dinner. We hung out there for a few hours and then headed back to my parents to play games. At this point in the day we were pretty much exhausted so we came home! It was a great Christmas!

Dave is 26!

Happy Birthday Dave! Dave is finally 26! I am so excited, probably much more than I should be, but the thing is, those two months between our birthdays when I am older than him are two long months. He likes to let me know that I am so much older than him. But back to the point, Happy Birthday Dave!

So on the agenda for today:

Waking him up in a few minutes with breakfast in bed
Snowboarding at Sundance with Michael, his little brother
Dinner at Ruby River (his favorite Steak House)
Watching the BYU Bowl Game at the Garlicks

I will have to post pictures of our day later!

My Dave is a College Grad!

As of Wednesday, December 19, 2007, Dave is officially done at BYU! He now has a degree in Exercise Science. I don't think either of us can believe that he is really done, I think it will take a while to really sink in. I am so proud of him because not only did he graduate, but he did really well in all of his classes. Okay, I know that all of the classes are hard at BYU, but he really kicked butt in all of his really hard classes. He worked so hard, and it really paid off. I wish I had some great pictures to show of him getting his diploma, but unfortunately that is only in the spring. ( I have yet to convince him he needs to walk, I am still working on it though.) So on to our next major miles stones: finding a job until we go off to dental school!

Breanne's Absolute Winter Necessities!

I love winter, don't get me wrong, but they can be rough in Utah. I have decided that there are a few things that make living through a Utah winter possible. First and foremost: 4-wheel drive. My personal favorite, is my Toyota 4runner. I am scared to death to drive in the snow, (what can I say, I have had some bad experiences), and unfortunately seeing as how I live in Utah, I don't really have a choice, but my 4runner makes this frightening experience not so bad.

Second: Good herbal tea, or hot chocolate if you prefer. I like tea, because there are lots of great flavors, without all of the fat and calories of hot chocolate. Also, there is nothing that warms you up better when you are freezing.
Third: a great hat and scarf. It is amazing how much warmer you are with a good hat and scarf. I have become a firm believer in this the last few years. They make the biggest difference!

Spirit of the Season

I need help. Thanksgiving for me this year was a bit of a let-down. Don't get me wrong, the food was great, but there was something missing. Dave and I agreed as we were driving home from my parents that evening that it felt like any other Sunday. It didn't feel different, or special, like an important day where we focus on being thankful.

This is where I need help, as I come into the Christmas season, I want to really feel the spirit of the season, I don't want Christmas day to feel like just another holiday where Dave and I are running back and forth between families. Do you have any traditions or ideas that help you with this? For either Thanksgiving, that we can try out next year, or Christmas, we can do this year? I would love any ideas you can give me!

The Christmas Season Begins!

Saturday night we went with my family to Temple Square to see the Christmas Lights. It was beautiful because we had our first major snow storm earlier that day so the trees were all covered with snow along with the lights. It wasn't very crowded either because it was bitter cold outside.

Earlier that day` Dave and I decided that since it was snowing so hard, and we didn't want to be out driving around, we would stay in and get all of our Christmas stuff set up. I broke down this year and we bought a fake tree, how sad, this was something I swore I never would do. My reasoning behind it was this, every year we go shopping for a live tree and find a couple that are absolutely perfect, then we see the price tag and Dave tells me no. We always end up with a tree that is a little less than perfect, but it is the right price. This year I decided that seeing as how we wouldn't be able to find the perfect live tree for the perfect price, we could go with the perfect fake one.
Typically Dave and I do not set up Christmas this early, but after reading everyone's blogs, and going to Kari's house for the book club, I felt like I needed to get in gear. So thank you Kari for inspiring me to start our Christmas season a little earlier this year.

Dave the Rebel!

As a many of you know Dave is about to graduate from BYU, well it is safe to say that he is suffering from a case of "senior-itis". He has being doing small things here and there as a result of this. For example, occasionally missing classes to go hunting, being more willing to go out and play at night as opposed to studying, but by far the most visible way of rebelling he has found is to grow facial hair! The funny thing is only at BYU would this even matter, but apparently it does. It is funny because he shouldn't be allowed to take any tests or anything, but it hasn't been a problem. He took a test yesterday and no one said anything! I personally think that the girls in the testing center like his ruggedly handsome, mountain-man looks! The best part of all of this is the fact that I don't love facial hair. I think this must stem from the fact that growing up my brothers would always grow these big funky goatee's that I never particularly loved. So what do you think of facial hair, love it or hate it?

My Wonderful Husband

Dave recently commented on how this blog started out as "Our Family" blog and has turned into my blog. I thought that this was only fair seeing as how I am the only one who posts on it, but he may have a point. In all fairness, I guess lately I haven't posted a lot on him lately. So, now I am making up for it. While blog hopping a while ago, I saw this on a blog and really liked it:

What is his name? David Brent Garlick

How long have you been together? We started dating the fall of 2001
Who eats more? Definitely Dave, thank goodness!

Who said I love you first? I wrote it first in a letter to him as he was leaving on his mission, but he was the first to actually say it out loud.

Who is taller? Dave, definitely Dave

Who sings better? Dave, I am completely tone deaf!

Who is smarter? Probably Dave, I am better with words, but he is better with math

Whose temper is worse? This one is hard, he would probably say me.

Who does laundry? I do our laundry, but he does help by washing his hunting clothes.

Who pays bills? He does!

Who mows the lawn? Dave does!

Who cooks dinner? I do!

Who is more stubborn? I am pretty sure that Dave would say me.

Who asked who out? Technically, I asked him out, because I asked him to a dance in high school. But, when we really started dating he asked me out by asking to come horse back riding with me.

Who kissed who first? He kissed me after going to see The Christmas Carol with his family. I remember being really surprised he kissed me because he had a really bad cold at the time.

Who wears the pants in the family? I think he would say me, but I am pretty sure it is him. I guess it depends on the situation.
Who is the most kind, playful, loving, thoughtful, adventurous, motivated, smart, hard-working, handsome husband I could possibly dream of? Dave!

If you liked Goonies, you will love this!

Shayla Tagged Me, I'm It

I'm it, here are the rules:
1- You have to right down 6 factoids about yourself
2- You have to tag 6 more people and comment in their blogs to tell them that they were tagged

Here I go.....

1- I love to Read! I am sure that it wouldn't be that hard to figure out by reading my blog. I am kind of weird about it though, if I start reading a book and really enjoy it, I can't stop reading. Things like eating and sleeping don't really matter until the book is finished. I guess you could say I get kind of obsessive about it. Another thing that I tend to do is, if I really liked the book I will re-read it as soon as I finish it.

2- I love to run. This has been an acquired love, it definitely did not come naturally. I have always wanted to be a runner, and never thought I could be one, until I met my good friend Marilyn Knuth, she is my inspiration. She is the one who got me into it, and whenever I need a little extra motivation I just talk to her and I am motivated again. Thanks Marilyn!

3- Dave and I are going to be moving out of Utah for dental school. I am really torn on this one. There is a part of me that is thrilled to death to be moving away, to have it be just Dave and I and have both of our families far away. The other part of me is scared to death. I am really close to my family, and I can't imagine having kids and being far from the people I am closest to.

4- I am becoming addicted to blogging. I guess there are worse things to be addicted to, but still sometimes it is really bad. I have to admit that I am loving the fact that it is getting me in touch with people I haven't seen or talked to since high school.

5- I love being active and outside. I have always liked to be active and do stuff outdoors but Dave has really helped me on this one. All you need to do is check out his blog and you will see that he is kind of obsessed. Since marrying Dave, I have had the opportunity to take up some hobbies that I had never really tried before, and perfect the ones that I hadn't done as much, such as: rock climbing, hiking, fly-fishing, float tubing, ice fishing, (see a fishing theme?) camping, back packing, snowboarding, skiing, running, base ball, football, and soccer.

6- I love traveling. I have had the opportunity to do a fair amount of traveling and I absolutely love it. I am lucky enough to have a Mom who loves to travel and thankfully likes to take me with her. Last year I had the opportunity to go to Great Britain with my Mom, Grandma, and Ashley. It really was the trip of a life time. We saw England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland (on St. Patricks Day), and France. Traveling is one of those interesting things, at least for me, the more I do it, the more I want to do it. (If that makes sense) Like I said, I am lucky that my Mom like to take me along.

I am tagging

Lisa, Becca, Becky, Summer, Ashley, and Karleigh

New York City

My New York Trip was absolutly wonderful, exactly the break that I needed so bad, (not that we rested or relaxed much.) Here are some the highlights from my trip. My Mom and I in Rockafeller Plaza Here I am seriously wind blown walking across the Brooklyn Bridge
Ashley and I on the Brooklyn Side of the Brooklyn Bridge
(You can kind of see the sign above us)
Ashley and my Mom sporting beautiful nails after a manicure
Ash and I in front of a T-Rex at the Museum of Natural History
(The movie The Night in the Museum was based on this museum)
Ash sporting a sexy monkey mask in the Natural History Museum
Ash and I in Central Park

A Great Movie!

This last weekend I went with my Mom and Ashley to see the movie Dan in Real Life, and absolutely loved it! I feel like I haven't see a "good clean" movie in a long time. This one was great because it was really funny, clean, and I think is the kind of thing pretty much everyone would enjoy. Granted, I did go with just girls, and it was a romantic comedy, but I don't care who you are, Steve Carell is just funny! So, I am always a little paranoid about recommending movies to anyone in case they won't like it, but I am willing to go out on a limb on this one and say that everyone should see it because it is great!

Murder Mystery Party

Ryan and Callie Bott as Captain Hal Overy and Captain "Saucy" Nancy Martin

Danny and Jenette Darais as Salamanca the Valet and Hayapitl the Indian Chief

Buffy and Joe Dayton as Tom/Meg the Cabin Boy and Don Inigo

Cory as Crazy Bill Pistol the Pirate (yes, he is dressed as a woman)

Dave and I as Captain "Black" Jack McCracken and the Host

Jessica and Matt Shane as "Sawbones" McGraw and Governer Percival Stanforth

Last night Dave and I hosted a murder mystery dinner, and it was so much fun! Everyone was such good sports and their costumes were amazing, they went all-out. I feel so bad because I originally forgot my camera so I asked Dave to bring it when he came a little later and he did bring it but after taking like five pictures the batteries died! So here are the pictures we did get. Everyone looked awesome! We played a game called a Dead Man's Chest, so everyone was kind of piratey, or something related. Thanks to everyone who played, it was so much fun. We will have to keep this tradition going!

NYC Here I Come!!!

I am so excited, as part of my birthday present my Mom is taking Ashley and I to New York City! She has to go for work, so she figured the three of us might as well go and make a girls trip out of it. So far we don't have any real plans beyond going to see the Broadway, Wicked, and we may hit up the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building because Ashley hasn't seen them yet. I have a favor to ask, I have already been to New York a few times before, and I know there are a million things to see and do there, but I want input on what you think are the highlights, the things that really worth seeing while we are there. We will be there a total of four days, two when Ash and I will be just hanging out while my Mom is in Seminars and two when the three of us will be playing. Any input would be awesome, thanks.

Also, we had our second book club last night, and I have to say that the turn out was much better this time. Stephanie Lloyd, my sister in law, did an awesome job of hosting, and the book we picked for next month is Silas Marner by George Eliot, for anyone who wants to read it.

Witches Night Out!

Every year Garner's Village holds a Witches Night Out party and Ashley, Callie and I have found that it is a great way to get into the Halloween mood. The three of us have gone to it the last two years. It was a fun night where we dressed up as witches and shop and walk around Garners Village. This year is was so crowded that we had to wait in line to even get into some of the stores, but is was still fun. They have all kinds of "Witch" festivities, like cackling contests, drawings, and fortune telling. The best part about it is to just walk around and look at everyone's great costumes. Some people get totally decked out in cobwebs, fake crows, and all kinds of fun stuff. Going to Garner Village any time of year is great because they have all kind of awesome decorations, but they go all out for this party. It was a lot of fun!

Fall In Utah

I just have to say that I love the Fall! I have to say that it is by far my favorite season, it is so nice and refreshing after a long hot Utah summer. Also, the leaves are the greatest. A couple weekends ago Dave and I decieded that we wanted to go up Provo canyon and take some family pictures. We figured this would work well seeing as how we were going to my parent's ward with them. We recruited Ashley to come and take the pictures for us, not an easy job when you have a dog that doesn't want to cooperate. We looked all over the place for spot that would be perfect for pictures, and we finally ended up at Sundance. It was kind of fun because when Dave and I were still in our church clothes we matched, so it looked like we were taking engagement pictures. The funny thing was we both brought a change of clothes but we didn't coordinate at all, so Dave is going with a little more summer theme, and I am sporting a fall one. It was fun regardless, and Ashley did a great job taking the pictures. Thanks again Ash!

26!

Okay, I am officially feeling old now! Yesterday was my 26th birthday! I can't believe that now I am closer to 30 than I am 20. I know that in all reality I am just a day older than I was yesterday, and that it is really not a big deal but it still seems pretty crazy that I am really 26. It is kind of interesting how you hit little milestones that make you want to evaluate your life and make necessary changes that will get you where you want to be. So that is kind of where I am right now. I never thought, oh, when I am 26 I want to be here or anything, but now that I am 26, I don't know that I am exactly where I want to be. Not that I am in a bad place at all, I am not, I have a wonderful husband who I am madly in love with, I have a great job, wonderful family and friends who I couldn't live without, but I think that I personally could be better than I am right now. I don't know if that makes any sense at all. So here I go, now that I am 26, I want to make some postive changes in my life, so that by the time I am 27 I can be in a better place than I am right now.

Dallin and Ella

What can I say, I love my niece and nephew! I can't imagine two cuter kids! I am sure that everyone thinks that their nieces and nephews are the cutest, but I really think that mine are. One of the best things about them is how much they love their Uncle Dave. I love watching Dave with them because he is the kind of Uncle who will get on the floor and play with them. Lately Dave has been busy teaching Dallin some really important things, like how to make a really good funny face, and how to arm wrestle. It is so fun because Dallin and Ella are not only really cute, they also have awesome personalities. Dave and I find ourselves using some of the cute phrases that Dallin and Ella come up with. They both are total entertainers and love to get everyone laughing. I am sure that having your own kids is wonderful, but until then, I will just have to keep enjoying Dallin and Ella.

What I have been doing.....

I have admit I am feeling a little guilty about not posting for a little while, I check everyone else's posts expecting them to have updated theirs, and I haven't done mine. I just haven't felt like I have done anything exciting enough to post on. Knowing this, you can continue to read if you want, I will just give a little update of what I have been doing for the last little while. We had the opportunity last week to puppy-sit my sister-in-laws dog, a little poodle. This experience has re-affirmed to Dave that he does NOT want a little dog. The puppy was a lot of fun, she was just really hyper. The reason I put the picture of Gauge up here is to somewhat illustrate his infinite patience, he was wonderful with the little dog jumping up on him non-stop for a week. The second picture is not exactly the most flattering of me, but it was to commemorate an exciting event, the first time I have actually caught a fish, fly fishing. We went fly fishing last week and I actually ended up catching 4 or 5 fish, I have yet to land one, I guess that is the next step? Anyway, I guess you can't really appreciate this fact unless you have been fly fishing, but I thought it was pretty cool anyway. My book club went well, not as many people showed up as I had planned, but it was still fun, and there is always next month. The book we are reading this month is The Secret Life of Bees. So other than working, and reading, this is pretty much what I have been doing the last few weeks, not that exciting, but hey, you were warned.

Book Club!

Anyone who knows me knows I am an avid(Dave would say obsessive) reader. I have been hearing a lot about book clubs lately and have decided to start my own. I am so excited and a little nervous. I have never actually been in one, so everything I know about them is through researching them online and what people have told me. I am always looking for great new books to read so I figured this is a great way to read new books, and to get together with friends. I have to be honest, I am excited about reading new books and everything, but I am really excited for the once-a-month girl bonding time. I definitely don't get enough of that in, in fact I don't know anyone who actually does. Anyway, I would love any suggestions on books to read, or ways to make the book club better!

Baseball Time!

Tonight Dave and I found a great new way to play baseball with just the two of us. One of us pitches, the other one hits and Gauge (our dog) fetches the ball once it is hit. This isn't exactly a fool-proof method because Gauge doesn't always pay attention to where the ball is going, so about half the time we still have to run and find the ball, but it is still fun. This is one of the things I love about summer, the chance to get out after work and play!

Summer Recap

I can't believe that summer is almost over. It is kind of funny, when summer starts there are always so many things you want to do, and then all of a sudden labor day weekend is here and you don't know where your summer went. This summer was a mellow one seeing as how Dave spent the majority of it studying for the Dental Admissions Test. We were able to get some playing in though. We managed to get some rock climbing, hiking, fishing, running, and camping in. To celebrate this labor day weekend we headed off camping to Boulder Mountain (Middle of Utah somewhere). We had a great time hiking and fishing. Here is a great picture of my boys fishing.

We are now officially Bloggers!

Okay, so I finally broke down and decided to start a blog for Dave and I. Lately I have learned to appreciate blogs, and how entertaining they can be. They are also a good way to catch up on people's lives. So here we go...... this is all about Dave and I!
